Digital Literacy, a Necessity

Navigating career pathways can be very daunting. There are many different industries, companies and skill sets that an individual can pursue. There is a specific skill set that will improve one’s ability to gain access to all sectors. We all know that good soft skills are necessary for functioning on teams, building relationships and balancing work and home. Digital skills or digital literacy are a hard set of technical skills that allow individuals to collect, process, analyze, and communicate data through technological tools.  That can include lap tops, tablets, and cell phones. A report published by Burning Glass entitled “The Digital Edge” explores how job descriptions, requirements, and compensation are changing in the information age. “Goodwill® strives to enhance the dignity and quality of life of individuals and families by helping people reach their full potential through education, skills training and the power of work…”
In order to have that type of impact, local Goodwill organizations are providing its participants with a wide array of credentialing and job training opportunities such as the Goodwill Digital Career Accelerator.
