I was homeless until I came to Goodwill Easter Seals Minnesota last year. I didn’t have a place to live, no job, and I was living on the street. I was a recovering drug addict and an alcoholic. Even though I had gotten clean and sober I had nowhere to go, no ambition and no spirit.
When I went to rehabilitation services, they recommended that I come to Goodwill®. When I first got here I wasn’t really cool with it, but they worked with me and gave me a job and an opportunity.
My self-esteem quickly went up. They care about you and where you’ve been. They made sure to help me with what I wanted in life. They worked with me and kept me working. I haven’t had anyone to do that for me in so long. When people love you and care about you, good things happen. I hope I never let them down.
I am so grateful for the opportunity to find my way. My biggest accomplishment was finding someplace to live. I have a place to come home to. That is everything. They helped me find a job and I got one today.
I want to help people, because someone helped me when I needed it. I would say to anyone who is like me, “If I can do it, anybody can do it.” There’s help out there if you want it.
