Every January marks Get Organized Month. We all want to start the year clutter free and feel put-together (remember that your local Goodwill® donation center can help with that). Organization is also a helpful skill to have on the job; that’s something Paul found out when he came to Goodwill Industries of Michiana, Inc. (South Bend, IN).
Fixing Up a New Career
He was always handy around the house and loved to fix things. That inspired him to find a career in construction, but he needed proper training to get started. Paul shared his dream with a Goodwill career coach.
If you didn’t know, Goodwill thrift stores fund programs for people like Paul who need a little support to accomplish their dreams. Thanks to Goodwill shoppers and donors, Paul was able to enroll in the CORE Construction training program.
In the training, he learned how to properly handle tools, to be well organized and even gained some leadership knowledge. With these new skills, Paul earned a job at a local manufacturing company where he could put his love for fixing things to work.
How to Advance Your Career
Paul came to Goodwill ready to advance himself and his career, and he encourages others to take the leap as well.
“You are given so many opportunities and support. They will guide you through your career path,” Paul shared when reflecting on his experience with Goodwill career services.
If you want to advance your career but need some support to get there, please reach out to your local Goodwill. Goodwill thrift stores fund programs like this to promote economic mobility for all.
