My Goodwill Story – Ti’ant

It’s so exciting when you find the perfect gift for someone during the holidays. You feel like you can show someone how much you care about them and see the joy it brings them in return. As new things get added to our lives, remember that donating things you no longer need to Goodwill® can become an even bigger gift for those in need.

That was the case for Ti’ant. He was looking for support in paying his bills and finding housing after involvement with the legal system. Thankfully, a friend referred him to Goodwill Kentucky (Louisville).

One of the most impactful things that Goodwill was able to support Ti’ant with was paying for the repairs on his scooter. This meant that he had reliable transportation so he could get to his job without worrying about it breaking down.

Along with that fix, Ti’ant also enrolled in various professional development programs, including a customer service certification and mentorship, that are offered by Goodwill. He was even able to access clothing that helped him feel confident at his job.

Growing in Confidence

Today, Ti’ant works at a local restaurant, but there has been an even bigger change inside. He has consistently engaged in therapy for the last few months, is able to spend more quality time with his children and has stable housing. Thanks to Ti’ant’s choice to reach out and put in the work, his life has changed for the better.

When reflecting on his experience with Goodwill, he said, “You all gave me the confidence to try again. You showed me a new side of education and taught me the importance of asking for help.”

Ti’ant’s story is a reminder for us all to not just ask for help, but to find ways we can pay it forward. When you decide to clean out your closet or basement to start the new year off fresh, donating those items to Goodwill supports someone like Ti’ant, who is looking to get life back on track. Find the donation center closest to you.
