Goodwill Northern New England (Goodwill NNE) is seeking 50 national service members who will serve in year-long AmeriCorps programs based multiple locations across Maine.
AmeriCorps is actively looking for ways to respond to the COVID-19 pandemic. Since the start of the pandemic, AmeriCorps members have assisted with remote learning for schools in low-income neighborhoods, supplied provisions to individuals and families with little to no food security, and provided aide to struggling communities, among other activities. Due to the uncertainty and economic strain that the pandemic has caused, AmeriCorps has expanded its programs to offer professional development opportunities, which not only help those in need but also help the volunteers who are providing the services.
Goodwill NNE has started recruiting members for two distinct programs in Maine: the Goodwill VISTA Partnership, which handles volunteer management, outreach, and program development, and the Multilingual Leadership Corps, which tutors English as a second language (ESL) students.
The AmeriCorps members will become part of Goodwill’s 2020–2021 cohort, a group who will be given training, receive networking opportunities and participate in retreats. They will also receive a bi-weekly living stipend that will range between $513 and $613, a scholarship fund of $6,195, and qualified student loan forbearance and interest repayment, health benefits, and childcare reimbursement if they are eligible.
Goodwill NNE is also on the lookout for host site organizations for AmeriCorps members. Nonprofits, municipalities and school districts are welcome to inquire if they require the help of a service member.
