Honor Hardworking Mothers by Shopping at Goodwill®

Considering all of the incredible things our moms have done for us over the years, the very least they deserve is a really wonderful, heart-felt celebration on Mother’s Day. With just over a week left to prepare, I’m hoping you’ve already got some great ideas. If not, let us help! Goodwill’s goal is to aid in the success of people who are striving to earn a paycheck and support their families – many of those people are moms who work tirelessly to provide. Here are a few ways that you can help those mothers in your community while also giving your mom a little relief next Sunday.

Treat your mom to an easy, stress-free brunch, complete with a yummy meal and, most importantly, plenty of quality time with you. Shannon blew me away with the cheerful spread she created last Mother’s Day, but what I loved most about it was that most of her display was thrifted, free, or made by hand! Check out the full play-by-play on the Inspired By Charm blog if you’re itching to read Shannon’s tips for finding her faux paper plates (Pssst! They’re from Goodwill!), free downloadable invitations, and the giant DIY paper flowers! I guess the lesson here is that with a little time and attention, the loveliest things can come about. And, just by shopping at Goodwill, Shannon created a perfect brunch to honor her mom while also helping others.

Parents are always putting their families first, often neglecting themselves. If you live in the Sarasota, Florida area, here’s your chance to pamper the mom in your life: Goodwill Manasota is offering one incredible mother a complete makeover! Just go to their website, ExperienceGoodwill.org, between May 1st and 6th to enter your mom to win the makeover which includes hair and makeup services plus an image consultant who will work with her to select $100 worth of fun and flattering clothing and accessories from Goodwill! It’s easy to fall out of the fashion loop when you’re chasing around toddlers or dealing with teen drama, so this will be a great way for mom to have a little retail therapy for free! Not only will this be a fun experience for the two of you to share, but since the announcement will come on Mother’s Day, it will be the perfect surprise!

How about a thoughtful, personalized, thrifty gift? I was browsing through Goodwill Industries of Central Indiana (Indianapolis)’s Mother’s Day Pinterest board when I found this sweet family tree DIY! As polished as it looks, it was actually an outdated serving tray when it was rescued from Goodwill shelves and repurposed. The DIYer repainted the tray first, cut out her shapes in paper when it had dried, then covered the whole image in ModPodge to seal it! I love this simple tip that really has a remarkable effect. It’s a gift that will be treasured for years to come…who knows, maybe even for generations!

All of the moms I know just want a little break on Mother’s Day. That means no cooking, no cleaning, and a little pampering. Follow these steps and she’ll be the happiest lady on the block by mid-morning. Oh, and make sure you thank her for her years of selflessness and hard work. She’s earned it. Happy Mother’s Day!
