The DIY Winter Décor Trend That’s Taking Instagram By Storm

When the cold weather hits there’s nothing better than putting on a classic favorite movie and spending some quality time indoors. Winter months bring space for curling up on the couch with family and friends, a cozy blanket and a nice warm drink. It’s no wonder that one of the season’s biggest trends is bringing the spotlight onto creative drinks and drink stations – something that’s easy to transform a small corner of the kitchen into that also makes a daily ritual of pouring a hot cup of coffee, tea or hot chocolate all the more enjoyable.

Long gone are the days where your most jolly, overly festive mugs get hidden at the back of the cabinet – or somehow all get left at grandma’s house. It’s finally in vogue to flaunt your most wonderful winter season kitchen finds, especially when it comes to mugs. It’s become on Instagram to post your favorite picture for #santamugmonday. At that hashtag, not only will you find Christmas-focused content, but winter content as a whole. Think fun snowmen mugs, snowflake saucers, and full bright coffee stations to give your morning the pep it deserves.

Below are a few of my favorite posts from Goodwill shoppers who found some second-hand seasonal gems that helped them create a hot beverage wonderland from the comfort of their own homes.

1. Holiday Delight

How wonderful it must be to wake up to a dedicated wall of mugs like this one. Full of quirky colors and shapes, this shelf touts a whimsical take on holiday décor – tossing in some fun finds that speak to the family’s current favorites (like the dinosaur mug on the left bundled with the traditional Santa mug in the middle. Looks like a perfect post for #santamugmonday to me!

2. Let It Snow

There’s nothing better than an impromptu snow day where the whole family can gather round the table with a steaming cup of cocoa. This snowman family mug collection thrifted from Goodwill, does double-duty as a seasonal beverage station and the cutest way to get the family to come together. I love that it’s also not tied to a holiday, so you can keep it out for all the winter months.

3. Warm Winter Comforts

Waking up to see this cheery winter coffee bar would be a morning pick-me-up even without the caffeine! I love the use of the winter garland on the shelf and the little details in the mugs and measuring cups near the coffee maker. It’s sweet and simple and shows that the smallest details can make the biggest of differences. I’d love to create something like this in my kitchen but swap out the coffee-specific décor for tea. There’s so much you can personalize with something like this, I’m excited to see what each person’s take on it might look like.
