Transform Your Workforce – Hire an Older Worker

The National Employ Older Worker Week (NEOWW) is celebrated the last full week in September each year. This is a great time for employers to be reminded about the value of their older workers and to celebrate the wealth of experience and expertise that older workers contribute to the success of America’s businesses.
Over 1,800 employers were surveyed about their opinion regarding older workers and retirement by the Transamerica Center for Retirement Studies. They found that 81 percent of employers surveyed agree with the statement, “My company is supportive of its employees working past 65.”
NEOWW is a creation of the U. S. Department of Labor and emphasizes the Senior Community Service Employment Program (SCSEP) which provides paid training to low income, unemployed job seekers who are 55 years of age and older. The training is provided to participants in non-profit or public agencies. Goodwill Industries International currently manages SCSEP in nine states with 19 member Goodwills providing direct service and annually preparing over 2,000 older job seekers with the skills that they need to be employed.
The Goodwill SCSEP participants have contributed over a million hours to local non-profits in their community in the last year. The community service hours that are provided by SCSEP participants increases the capacity of local non-profits to provide services in their local community.   You can find contact information for the SCSEP provider in your area here.
