Fiscal Year 2025 Appropriations Process

The Congressional Fiscal Year 2025 (FY25) Appropriations Process is getting underway for the fiscal year that begins October 1. House Appropriations Committee Chair Tom Cole released the topline allocations for the 12 subcommittees. House Republicans propose a 6 percent cut to non-defense programs, while increasing military spending by about 1 percent.

His youth was a battle against the odds, with school dropouts and prison bars casting long shadows over his potential. Yet, amidst the turmoil, the birth of his children became a pivotal chapter in his life, a reminder that every day is a new page to be written.

My Goodwill Story – Roy

In celebration of Military Appreciation Month, we are spotlighting the story of Roy, a veteran who came into MERS Missouri Goodwill Industries (St. Louis) for support.  Roy’s introduction to Goodwill’s services came through his church and the local Veterans Affairs office which led him to the Senior Community Service Employment Program (SCSEP). This program, designed for older Americans, combines community service with work-based job training, offering a platform for growth and contribution.

For more than 60 years, Older Americans Month (OAM) has been observed each May to celebrate the many contributions that older adults make in their communities, families and in the workforce. Led by the Administration for Community Living at the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services, the theme for OAM 2024 is Powered by Connection, which recognizes the profound impact that meaningful relationships and connectedness have on the health, well-being, and independence of older individuals.

Goodwill® on the Hill Highlights

On Thursday, April 18, advocates from more than 40 local Goodwills around the country — including executives, board members, program participants, and others — met with over 200 Members of Congress and staff for our annual Goodwill on the Hill event. Advocates discussed four key topics including: protecting federal funding for job-training and workforce development programs; expanding the charitable giving deduction to all taxpayers; reauthorization of the Workforce Innovation and Opportunity Act; and the role Goodwill plays in textile recycling.
