After the first proper introduction of what Goodwill does – I was hooked. I had no idea that every item I donated went to create job training and placement. Now, since I am trained to be a Goodwill Ambassador (volunteer), I am able to tell even more people about the amazing ways Goodwill creates a more employable community.
As I’m sure you already know, this Sunday is Father’s Day. It marks the 40th year that my Dad has been celebrated and the first year that we’ll be celebrating my husband. As such, I’ve been reflecting on what I appreciate most about these two special dads and how best to show them my gratitude.

Recently, a bi-partisan bill (S. 1513) was introduced in the Senate that would reauthorize and improve programs that aim to improve reintegration for people with a criminal history. Goodwill® is urging Senators to co-sponsor the bill.

The mission of the program is to assist fathers in overcoming the barriers that prevent them from supporting their children economically and emotionally.

After graduating in law, I left Morocco to join my Quebec-born husband in Montreal. Upon arrival, I had difficulty adapting to all the changes because I felt very isolated. Alone at home, I decided to look for work only to be disappointed as doors were closed to me due to my lack of work experience in Quebec. My determination allowed me to land a job in a fast food restaurant, but I was unfulfilled. A colleague spoke to me about Goodwill Renaissance Montreal.
Right now, plenty of graduates are preparing to embark on an exciting new path. This turning point brings nervousness, high hopes, and, sadly, it often also means a lack of funds. It isn’t easy to start over, so saving money becomes especially important during times like these. That’s one of the reasons why I love supporting Goodwill®!
Last week, I received a phone call from Audrey, a woman in Wisconsin who was seeking help for her brother, Frank. He has recently been released from prison after serving a 20-year sentence and needs help finding a job. The harsh reality is that without support and resources, Frank’s chances of recidivating are overwhelming.
