Spring into a New Season of Thrift Projects

We’ve waited long enough and in most parts of the U.S. and Canada, spring has finally sprung! Let’s celebrate by creating outdoorsy home décor projects and pulling together new looks inspired by this highly anticipated season. One great way to do this and to give back to your community at the same time is to shop for the necessities at Goodwill! Goodwill’s store-funded programs enable youth to stay in school and learn to work; assist workers who have lost jobs; continue long-term services to people with physical and intellectual challenges; and provide business and government with a dependable labor force. Now, let’s see what spring inspired purchases people are making!

Fresh off the runway, Dina from Goodwill Industries of Akron, Inc. has tracked down this spring’s hottest trends for less by scouring thrift stores. Nothing says spring more than flowers in bloom, so garden prints and pieces are unbeatable this season. Luckily for us, they can often be found on Goodwill racks. Check out the blog post for a summation of Spring 2015’s biggest trends and how you can grab them for less*.

With the arrival of better weather, we can now swap out last season’s footwear (boots) in favor of flats, and full-length pants for cropped styles! A classic look like this one sported by Rhoda of the blog Southern Hospitality will carry you nicely through the first vernal days right up until summer begins. A bright cardigan like this one from Goodwill helps you feel cute and comfortable whether you’re 15 or 50. And if you’re looking for ways to recreate this same look or get more mileage out of one sweater by matching it to with multiple ensembles, click through to Rhoda’s blog! Mixing and matching one bold, spring piece with neutrals is a great way to make a little bit go a long way.

But there’s another way to celebrate spring besides dressing for it: bringing it inside your home. Take gallery-style wall displays to the next level with a DIY mirror project like this one shared on Goodwill of Erie, Huron, Ottawa and Sandusky Counties, Inc. (OH)’s Instagram! It’s as simple as spray-painting thrifted tennis rackets, swapping out the strings for mirrors, and hanging them up in your home. An installation like this would definitely get me thinking about heading out into the spring sunshine even on my laziest days.

Florals, flats, or tennis rackets; what’s your favorite sign of spring? Chances are, you can find it in the aisles of your local Goodwill! Hop on over and enjoy the weather on the way!
