Wedding Accessories on a Budget at Goodwill®

Wedding season is just around the corner and most 2015 brides are already knee-deep in the planning process for their big day. In March of my wedding year, I had already made all of the major decisions (which meant that I had also nearly exhausted my budget), yet the wedding itself wasn’t until September! What did I do? I turned to Goodwill® to find my last minute wedding bits and pieces at a reasonable price.

Looks like I’m not alone! Savvy bride Kelly asked for help from Goodwill Industries of Southeastern Wisconsin, Inc. (Milwaukee)’s décor expert Merri Cvetan and together they made floral bouquets from garments and goodies found in the aisles of their local Goodwill. I love how easy to follow their DIY tutorial video is! If you’re a bride who wants to give this a try, invite your bridesmaids over for a glass of wine and a gabfest while you work together to create your own bouquets. Bonus: the flowers will never wilt! This memento will look as beautiful on your 50th wedding anniversary as it does the day you say “I do”.

There are so many details to plan for in the wedding world, so some of them need to be time savers. One of the biggest wedding trends in recent years has been bunting. This whimsical décor element is cheerful and elegant, but it can take a long time to sew your own and buying it premade can often be pricey! That’s why I love this solution shared by PaperMoss.com – it’s as simple to put together as tying knots, and, if you thrift all of the hankies, you won’t have to pay a whole lot. Read the rest of their post for more handkerchief wedding decor ideas, too!

Are you just a wedding guest this season? It’s not too soon to start thinking about your attire. In fact, if you track down the perfect little black dress now you’ll be able to wear it not just for the wedding (paired with a snazzy belt and heels), but this incredibly versatile wardrobe staple can be worn again and again before and after the approaching nuptials. Goodwill Industries of Mid-Michigan, Inc. (Flint) has explored the diversity of this particular dress by taking it from wedding-ready to “tough girl” and even added a perfectly-paired bustier for a night on the town! See how they’ve styled it by visiting their blog.

While you’re out shopping for wedding paraphernalia, consider making a donation of items you no longer need. I’m sure there’s plenty of stuff taking up space in the back of your closet that could go to good use at one of our stores. We sell your stuff to create jobs! Every 27 seconds, someone gets a job through the help of Goodwill. You could have a part in creating a future for someone that is as bright and exciting as a wedding day.
