If you’re one of our public supporters, you likely already know about Goodwill’s mission to provide job training and employment opportunities. But did you know that several local Goodwill organizations run a unique high school — The Excel Center — for adults who are working to earn their high school diplomas?

White House Announces Workforce Development Week

The Administration is gearing up to announce the expansion of apprenticeship programs across the country as it devotes this week to workforce development. While it is encouraging that the administration has a favorable view of apprenticeships, questions remain about funding such an initiative and service providers like Goodwill® are concerned about further cuts to the workforce system including those in the President’s proposed FY18 budget as previously reported.

Programs At Risk Under “America First” Budget

The Administration released their skinny budget, known as “America First Budget” in mid-March, which was a rough outline of his spending priorities, and included $54 billion in cuts to over 60 programs. Now, we are hearing more details about the proposed cuts from the Administration in, “A New Foundation for American Greatness” which was released on May 23, 2017.

Congress recently approved an omnibus spending package for the remainder of FY2017 which will continue to fund the government though September 30, 2017.
