‘American Idol’ Contestant’s Family Donates Autographed Photo to Goodwill®

Goodwill® donors in Southern Georgia are getting the chance to receive more than a tax deduction in return for their donations this week. The parents of current American Idol contestant Phillip Phillips have donated an autographed photo of their son in recognition of Goodwill Industries Week, May 6-12, to be given to one lucky donor at the week’s end.

My Story: Jim Barnette

Before coming to Goodwill, Jim worked many different jobs for little-to-no pay. He came to Goodwill at age 40 and was given the opportunity to learn several jobs in the production and contracts department. He quickly proved his abilities and was promoted to working in the store. He is happy to be earning and saving money, and to have funds to buy record albums and go on dates with his girlfriend.

Goodwill® Remains Hopeful about Bipartisan Job Training Bill

Enacted in 1998, the Workforce Investment Act (WIA) is long overdue to be reauthorized. Once Congress reconvenes on May 4, the House Committee on Education and the Workforce is expected to consider two bills, a Republican version – H.R. 4297; and the Democrats’ alternative – H.R. 4227, that propose to reauthorize the 14-year-old law.
