My Story: Nancy Nance

Woman with long dark hair in a navy polo standing near blue recycling bins in a storage area.

Previously incarcerated, jobless and living in a shelter — High Point resident Nancy Nance was out of options. A mother with two kids and one grandchild, Nance was haunted by her past mistakes. Motivated by her children to achieve something with her life, Nance entered Triad Goodwill’s Jobs on the Outside program in 2018, and quickly joined their Work Experience Program immediately after that.

Cozy Up to Secondhand

Bed with white pillows and a mix of gray and brown cushions, a woven wall hanging above, and a purple striped rug at foot.

The temperatures are falling, the leaves are turning, and the leggings are coming out of the closet again. What does that mean? Time to get cozy!

Advocate for Veterans in November

Family of four posing on a front porch, with a soldier in camouflage standing between two smiling adults.

Veterans Day is a time to recognize the sacrifices of our nation’s veterans and celebrate the contributions of military families.

My Story: Shannon

Black woman wearing a black cardigan and pearl necklace stands outdoors among green shrubs.

Determination is a word that is reoccurring in the description of this young woman. Referred to Goodwill of Western and Northern Connecticut after High School for assistance in attaining employment.

Fall Back In Love With Flannel Season

Smiling girl sits among pumpkins at the pumpkin patch, holding a pumpkin above her head.

Flannel shirts can bring up traditional fall memories and activities – like apple picking and leaf peeping. But there’s more than one way to take advantage of wearing the popular fabric with a stylish new spin.

Election Day Is Almost Here

Red, white, and blue voting buttons featuring the word VOTE and white stars in a patriotic collage.

With all of the excitement around Halloween (one of the busiest times at Goodwill, as people shop for their creative costumes and thus contribute to the mission), and the Washington Nationals winning the World Series – it’s easy to overlook the fact that Election Day will soon be upon us.

My Story: Nyla Wills

Smiling person with short hair, rectangular glasses, and a red neck tattoo, wearing a black zip jacket indoors.

It was never Nyla Wills’ intention to drop out of high school, but when her mother was diagnosed with Crohn’s Disease, she had no choice. She left school during her sophomore year to help provide for her family.

Skills in the States

I recently had the opportunity to attend the annual Skills in the States Forum for Policy, Advocacy, and Impact convened by the National Skills Coalition.

DIY Your Pet’s Costume at Goodwill

Small fluffy dog wearing a pink outfit with a donut-shaped accessory against a purple background.

My favorite Halloweens before my kids were born were the ones I spent agonizing over my dog’s annual costume. Yes, you read that right. Not my own, my dog’s.
