In honor of National Disability Independence Day, we celebrate individuals like Debra — who are actively building their futures with courage, determination and the right support. Debra knew she needed help navigating the challenges of her disability while working toward her goals of employment, improved health and greater independence. After learning about the nonprofit services offered by Goodwill® through the Hawkeye Area Community Action Program (HACAP) and receiving a referral from her supported living staff, Debra connected with Goodwill of the Heartland (Iowa City, IA).

White House Unveils AI Action Plan

This week, the White House released America’s AI Action Plan, which outlines the Trump Administration’s strategy to accelerate AI innovation, build an AI infrastructure and promote the adoption of AI across industry sectors. The multi-agency plan includes several components on workforce development. The Department of the Treasury is instructed to issue guidance clarifying that many AI literacy and AI skill development programs may qualify as eligible educational assistance under the Internal Revenue Code, allowing employers to offer tax free AI training for employees.

Older Americans Act Turns 60 as Funding for Older Workers is Delayed

This week marks an important anniversary for the landmark federal law supporting older Americans. The Older Americans Act (OAA), which was signed into law by President Lyndon Johnson on July 14, 1965, established a wide range of social support and health-related services and programs for older adults. The Senior Community Service Employment Program (SCSEP), authorized by Title V of OAA, supports states and nonprofit organizations in connecting low-income individuals who are age 55 and over with training and employment opportunities.

Warm weather and sunshine can get the creative juices flowing. Plus, these longer days mean we have more time to get to all the projects we’ve been dreaming of doing. Decluttering and organizing have long been a great way to start a new season with a sense of freshness and possibility. Letting go of what no longer serves you to make room for what you need at the moment can be such an important part of the process, but one that oftentimes gets skipped. Look at the different parts of your life to see where you want to focus first. For me, finding a matching pair of my earrings has been one of those areas. It was finally time to do something about it with the help of my DIY earring holder.
