One of my absolute favorite things to buy at the thrift store is winter coats. Growing up, I always hated how I had only two choices in winter coats. I would have to cover up my different outfits with the same thing every day. My parents would buy me a ski jacket for outdoor activities and a dress coat that I would wear for church and school. While it was the logical and financially responsible decision for a parent to make, I simply hated the lack of variety that winter would bring.

The 119th Congress gaveled into session on January 3 as lawmakers returned to Washington with a long list of unfinished legislative business and new policy priorities to tackle in the coming months. The start of a new year is a great time to reflect on the previous year and set resolutions to improve our lives in the next year. Whether this is by setting up healthier habits, taking better care of household finances or living more mindfully with how we shop, there are always areas where we could improve. As I look ahead to 2025, one of the areas I’m interested in improving connects both my personal and sustainability goals. I plan to continue to shop secondhand, primarily for designer and luxury pieces. In the next year, my goal is to really focus more on quality instead of quantity when shopping.

Trevor's journey with Goodwill Kentucky (Louisville) began unexpectedly at a local post office. While there, he needed a stamp and happened to ask a Goodwill career coach. It sparked a conversation about Trevor’s life and Goodwill’s services. Intrigued by the programs offered, Trevor attended an orientation the very next day. Trevor needed a support system to help him achieve his goals, and Goodwill was the perfect fit. He enrolled in Goodwill programming, determined to get his life on track. Trevor committed to attending all services in person, participating in job readiness classes, going through professional development sessions and meeting with the housing team. He also received mental health services.
