Spring is often the time of year when teenagers begin their first job. I thought now would be a good time to offer some tips on landing a job when you lack prior experience.

Earth Day is Every Day at Goodwill®
The theme of this year’s Earth Day – Sunday April 22 – is to end plastic pollution by employing the principles of conscious consumerism: Refuse, Reduce, Reuse, Repurpose, Recycle. Earth Day is an opportunity for many to remember their impact on the environment, and to take actions that decrease any negative impact. For some, Earth Day has expanded into Earth Week or Earth Month. At Goodwill, however, stewardship for the earth is part of our mission and what we do every day.
Is It Time To Look For Another Job?
At some point, all of us have asked ourselves that question. Today I’ll discuss some reasons why – or why not – you might want to start looking for that next opportunity. Generations since the 1950’s have seen a huge shift in worker mobility. Loyalty, however defined, by both the company and worker, is largely gone. No longer do companies typically keep workers when business tails off. Workers are much more apt to change not just jobs, but careers, multiple times during their lifetime.
Spring Closet Cure
Well, we’ve waited through a long, cold winter and are finally on the other side of the snow! I invite you to join me in celebrating the season with a spring closet cure. What’s that, you ask? It’s a quick wardrobe refresh in which you pull out (and donate!) anything drab then add in a selection of new-to-you pieces that highlight one fashion trend for the upcoming season.
One Week until #GoodwillOnHill
This time next week Goodwill® Advocates from around the country will visit Capitol Hill and meet with hundreds of lawmakers to advocate for the things important to the Goodwill family and the communities they serve. For over 10 years Goodwill Advocates, including CEOs, staff, board members and program participants, have traveled to Washington D.C. to share their stories and to continue to fight for Goodwill’s efforts to help people find good paying careers.

The Two Most Important Areas an Employer Considers When Hiring
All I need are job openings and a great resume and I’ll be in good shape! I can’t tell you how many times I’ve heard that. Let’s explore what employers really look for and why simply possessing a good resume often isn’t enough. Employers look for a combination of competency and culture fit. Goodwill® Supports Financial Literacy Month
Since April is "Financial Literacy Month", we thought we’d take a break from talking about money in the billions and trillions (as is the norm here in DC) and instead focus on finances in amounts that are more relevant to most of us. One of the goals for our local Goodwill is to help organizations is to help individuals and families reach their full potential through education, skills training and employment. There are significant barriers to education and work for many people and even once they access a local Goodwill service to support, there often lies another hurdle: lack of financial wellness.
