The United States Department of Labor defines a non-traditional career for women as one in which 25% or less of those employed in the field are women. Yashika Jones has been a part of that statistic for nearly 14 years. While living in Connecticut, Jones was employed by the Sheet Metal Union. Working in this industry can often times be demanding, with long hours and unpredictable weather conditions.
As we turn the page to a new year, some of resolve to eat better, lose weight, give up bad habits… and some resolve to land a new job in the coming year. While I can’t help those other areas, I can offer tips if you’re planning to step out into the job market in 2019.
When it comes to end-of-the-year decor, I have always loved the clean, bright combination of snowy whites, festive greens, and earthy browns. This color scheme somehow looks both traditional and contemporary so I can see it gracing any home now that the holiday season is upon us.

Goodwill Industries International, Inc. will be welcoming a new leader, the government relations team will be working to advance a new list of public policy priorities, and Capitol Hill will begin a new Congress – welcoming nearly 100 new lawmakers in the freshman class.
The holiday season… the new year… it’s a busy time for many of us. It’s also a time of reflection and of anticipation as to what the next year holds. Today I’d like to offer encouragement to those of you who may find yourself unemployed or possibly in a job with no foreseeable future. Many of us have been there – including me. Perhaps today you’ll find not just encouragement, but an idea or two that might help open a door to your next opportunity.
I don’t know about you, but I get a special joy from knocking out about ten holiday gifts in one crafty afternoon (#crafternoon?). Nothing fills me with seasonal spirit more than cranking up the Christmas tunes while I hand-make presents for each of my family and friends. Just in time for the holidays, the Senate has passed a bill that adjusts federal criminal sentencing guidelines in an effort that required serious bipartisan work. The “FIRST STEP Act” was passed by an overwhelming majority of the Senate and now goes to the House where Republican and Democratic lawmakers say they are ready to vote and send it to the President, who has previously said he would sign it into law.
