I was able to cast my vote last week, as Virginia is one of the 42 states along with the District of Columbia that offers in-person early voting. My polling place was fresh out of “I Voted Early” stickers, so I took a “Future Voter” sticker instead. When Hurricane Laura hit southwestern Louisiana six weeks ago, it left countless damaged roofs its wake. Goodwill of Acadiana led the charge to collect tarps for distribution to their neighbors who were hit hard by the storm, which would serve as temporary coverings until the roofs could be repaired. Now, after Hurricane Delta made landfall on October 9 and battered homes in Acadia, Vermilion and Lafayette parishes, among others, the Goodwill is again collecting tarps to help those affected.

When Jeanne Najar-Marez applied to the Senior Community Service Employment Program (SCSEP) at Goodwill Industries of New Mexico (Albuquerque), she was looking for a resource to assist her with job training and employment. She had been out of the workforce for several years and had dealt with illness, homelessness and substance abuse during that time. She was on the waiting list in Bernalillo County, NM, for several months before she was able to enroll into SCSEP.
