Blue Roofs: Goodwill of Acadiana is Collecting Tarps for Hurricane Relief in Louisiana

When Hurricane Laura hit southwestern Louisiana six weeks ago, it left countless damaged roofs its wake. Goodwill of Acadiana led the charge to collect tarps for distribution to their neighbors who were hit hard by the storm, which would serve as temporary coverings until the roofs could be repaired. Now, after Hurricane Delta made landfall on October 9 and battered homes in Acadia, Vermilion and Lafayette parishes, among others, the Goodwill is again collecting tarps to help those affected.

My Story: Jeanne Najar-Marez

When Jeanne Najar-Marez applied to the Senior Community Service Employment Program (SCSEP) at Goodwill Industries of New Mexico (Albuquerque), she was looking for a resource to assist her with job training and employment. She had been out of the workforce for several years and had dealt with illness, homelessness and substance abuse during that time. She was on the waiting list in Bernalillo County, NM, for several months before she was able to enroll into SCSEP.

Goodwill Partners with Albuquerque’s Hispano Chamber of Commerce to Help Seniors Build Digital Skills

Goodwill Industries of New Mexico works with the Hispano Chamber of Commerce to connect low-income seniors, ages 55 and over, with work experience and training to assist them in securing permanent community-based employment. Through the Senior Community Service Employment Program (SCSEP), the Goodwill serves a thriving Hispanic population in Albuquerque; nearly half of all Goodwill SCSEP participants are Hispanic.
