Goodwill Valentine’s Date Night

Like a lot of parents of young kids, we don’t get out a whole lot. When you’re on a tight budget that includes monthly childcare that costs more than your mortgage, it’s hard to justify hiring a sitter for just about anything. But as Valentine’s Day approaches and cold, wintry nights take hold, we decided to made an exception to our normal rule.

This year is an election year, resulting in a shorter legislative calendar for Congress so that lawmakers can have ample time on the campaign trail. This means in order to gain lawmakers’ attentions and for policies to get pushed through this year, advocates must be smarter in their efforts.

About Recruiters, Part Two

In part two of our four-part series on recruiting, let’s explore the advantage of external recruiters to both the job seeker and employer.

National Mentoring Month

January is National Mentoring Month. I’ve been fortunate to have a number of mentors in my life including family, teachers, friends and colleagues who have all helped me advance in my career, overcome challenges or provided another perspective on something I may have been struggling with.

‘Tis the season to upgrade!

‘Tis the season of upgrading to downgrades! Yes, it’s January! The holidays are over now (insert sigh of relief here) and like many people, the onslaught of stuff and relief that it’s FINALLY over has put me squarely in purge mode. Lots of us are. This is exactly why January thrifting may be my favorite time of year.

The Short Year Ahead for Congress

An election year can be a difficult one for Congress to accomplish a lot, given a shortened legislative calendar to provide lawmakers with ample time to be on the campaign trail.

My Story: Michael

Through rounds of misdiagnosis, years in institutions, and mis-prescribed medications, Michael has continued to inspire those around him with his drive for independence. No longer needing daily supports to monitor his work, Michael was hired by Goodwill of Western and Northern Connecticut to work independently as a custodial team member on the Goodwill Good & Clean Crew.
