Atlanta Goodwill Connects with Community through Local Radio Program

On August 13, Goodwill of North Georgia (Atlanta) launched a weekly radio talk show on station WCFO-AM called “Good Works.” The agency’s Vice President of Marketing Jim Caponigro and Director of Public Relations Elaine Armstrong are the show co-hosts, bringing on local business people, nonprofit spokespeople and a variety of community leaders to talk about goings on in the metro-Atlanta area.

I was filling out five or six job applications every day. I tried to do fast food, but fast food wasn’t even calling me back! My social worker referred me to Goodwill, where I entered the Transition to Independence and Employment program. Now my job title is sales associate. It meant a lot to me to actually support my daughter now that I am employed. To give her the things she needs, that means more to me than anything in the world.

Goodwill Celebrates Employment Success with AbilityOne Awards

At this year’s SourceAmerica conference, a number of Goodwill agencies took home or nominated their customers for awards related to the AbilityOne program. Goodwill partners with AbilityOne to obtain federal contracts for custodial, grounds keeping, laundry, manufacturing and other services, all of which are predominantly fulfilled by a workforce of people who are blind or have significant disabilities.
