I am excited that Goodwill has re-opened stores with new safety precautions. Treasure hunting at Goodwill is one of life’s little delights that I really enjoy. I miss walking through the doors of Goodwill thinking: I don’t know what I’m going to find today, but I know it will be something good!

This week, after nearly 5 months away, I made my first trip to my local Goodwill store. Even with all the new, necessary health precautions taken on my first visit during the “new normal,” it felt nearly the same — and, in a lot of ways, better. Let me explain.
What an outpouring of delighted Goodwill thrifters we have seen on social media these past few weeks. Despite temporary closures due to COVID-19, I’m happy to report that more than three-quarters of all Goodwill stores across the United States and Canada have reopened their doors, and even more are opening each day!
It’s possible you’ve been spending a lot more time at home than usual, which makes now a great time to get started on all those home improvement projects. If not now, then when?
With more time on our hands during these unprecedented times, people have turned to creativity to keep themselves busy. Instead of giving in to online shopping, I’ve seen posts on social media from people who have learned to make do with what they have and turn it into something creative and fabulous. I’ve loved pouring through posts on social media, seeing how everyone has been upcycling their thrifted finds, both clothing and home goods, and turning them into something new again.

For me, turning the clocks back an hour means more than just another hour of daylight. It’s the symbol that spring has sprung, the end of one season and the start of another. It’s also one of those days that I like to use as a reminder to take a step back and look at the things in my life, trying to see what needs work or a little refresh.

Spring really seems to drag its heels this time of year, doesn’t it? Especially when you live as far north of the equator as I do. Though these late winter days do feel as though they are stretching slightly longer, and the sun is creeping ever so slowly back up further in the sky each day.
Going into Goodwill is like walking into a plain white room that you get to decorate. The possibilities are as endless. But do you end up buying the same “you” look over and over again? What’s the fun in that?
