Project Runway’s Tim Gunn and Mondo Guerra Help Raise $118,000 for Denver Goodwill

Emmy Award-winning fashion icon Tim Gunn and Denver-based designer Mondo Guerra hosted the fashion show fundraiser, Goodwill En Vogue at Denver Union Station on February 26. The event featured a fashion show put on by local high school students in Goodwill Industries of Denver’s (CO) career development programs and ultimately raised more than $118,000 for the agency.

I initially came to Goodwill Industries of St. Clair County (GWISCC) via a situational assessment from Michigan Rehabilitation Services in 2007. I was a single mother of three children at the time of entry. Prior to arriving at Goodwill I was having an extremely difficult time making ends meet, could not find a job and had no idea where to begin. I felt frustrated and defeated.

Kingsport, TN Goodwill Helps Participants Succeed Through Re-Entry Program

Goodwill Industries of Tenneva (Kingsport) helps individuals with criminal backgrounds complete the last step, intervention, by addressing their employability concerns with re-entering the workforce through classes at the Day Reporting Center (DRC). The DRC provides education, sobriety and works to reduce criminal intent for probationers and parolees. Graduation from the DRC program in Johnson City, TN is a big deal for the participants of the grant funded program of the Targeted Community Crime Reduction Project (TCCRP). This past January, two participants, Chris Rowe and Jason Nickles, received their certificate of graduation with smiles and enthusiasm for the next chapter of their lives.

My Story: Alan Gottschalk

My story is similar to many Americans today who consider themselves long-term unemployed. I remember watching television and the news anchor spoke about the high employment rates and those who were considered long-term unemployed. They described how hard it was to re-enter employment after experiencing a layoff or a permanent shutdown. I felt like the news anchor was talking about me, which added to my anxiety and depression.
